Floating photovoltaic plants harbour tremendous potential
By buiding three floating solar plants in the Netherlands with a total capacity of 25 MWp, BayWa r.e. completed the largest floating PV plant outside China on a Dutch decommissioned mining lake in 2020. The solar park generates enough electricity to power about 7,200 homes. Floating photovoltaic systems on unused water surfaces, such as disused lignite mines, sand pits or reservoirs, can make an important contribution to the energy transition. They are also easier to install, have lower operating and maintenance costs compared to ground-mounted systems, and avoid land-use conflicts.

Agri-PV: Dual harvest on farmland
In multiple Agri-PV pilot projects in the Netherlands, BayWa r.e. and its subsidiary GroenLeven are investigating how the use of solar modules can be successfully combined with the cultivation of berries. Under the modules, crops find good climatic conditions and protection from extreme weather events – both of which are growing ever more important for specialty crop farming due to climate change. The projects have demonstrated that it is possible to improve the quality of the fruits and reduce production costs. Additionally, this cultivation method helps to protect important resources by increasing the efficiency of land use while reducing plastic waste and water consumption.

Involving Citizens in the Energy Transition
BayWa r.e. has sold seven of the turbines belonging to the Immenberg Wind Farm in the Hanover region to a citizen energy community. Another system was sold to a likewise local community of landowners. This underlines BayWa r.e.’s commitment to involving members of the public and communities in projects as active players in the energy transition and giving central importance to regional value creation in the development of wind projects.
BayWa r.e. has replaced a total of eight wind turbines with new equipment within the repowering project – thus doubling installed capacity. The wind farm will produce around 70 GWh of green electricity each year, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of 22,700 average German households.

BayWa Mobility Solutions
BayWa Mobility Solutions GmbH, a subsidiary of BayWa AG, is driving forward CO2-optimized mobility solutions. BayWa is thus making an important contribution to decarbonizing transport. BayWa Mobility Solutions offers mobility solutions with integrated consultancy – for example as fleet solutions for SMEs, for farming or for private individuals. The focus is currently on the continuous development and expansion of an LNG (liquefied natural gas) filling station network for heavy-duty traffic and electric mobility for vehicle fleets, with a range of services from consulting and planning to installation of the infrastructure. With the BayWa fuel and charging card, customers can also use more than 3,500 filling stations and 95% of public charging stations. In the future, the range will be expanded to include sustainable drive technologies such as hydrogen or synthetic fuels.

Sustainability certificate for BayWa wood pellets
BayWa Premium wood pellets have been 100% PEFC-certified since September 2016. This means that the sawdust from which BayWa Premium pellets are made originates from sustainable forestry. The Energy division is extremely pleased to have received this certificate as a trader, because generally only the wood pellets producers and sawmills are PEFC-certified.

Climate neutral products
In addition to supplying its products in a climate-neutral manner, the Energy Business Area also offers climate-neutral heating products. Thus, for example, emissions resulting from heating with "ecoclean climate-neutral" heating oil are compensated for by supporting certified climate protection projects.
