A brief profile of the Energy Segment
The Energy Segment pools BayWa’s activities involving renewable energies and the trade in conventional energy sources. Under the umbrella of BayWa r.e. renewable energy GmbH, the Renewable Energies business unit covers the entire project business, from the planning, development and construction of wind farms and solar parks through to their sale. Services such as the technical and commercial management of plants and the marketing of the generated electricity on the energy market round off the range of offerings. BayWa r.e. also trades in photovoltaic components and storage technology for installers. Along with Europe and North America, BayWa r.e. is also active in the Asia-Pacific region and Australia. In its conventional energy business, BayWa primarily sells heating oils, fuels, lubricants, AdBlue and wood pellets, mainly in its core regions of southern Germany and Austria. A BayWa filling station card makes it even easier to refuel at any of the company’s own filling stations and at many other filling stations in Germany or electric vehicle charging stations.

The Business Units within the Energy Segment
The activities of this business unit are pooled within the BayWa r.e. renewable energy GmbH subsidiary. In the field of renewable energy, BayWa r.e. is one of the leading developers, service suppliers, PV wholesalers and energy solution providers. Under the motto “r.e.think energy”, the company is active worldwide. As a full-service partner with more than 25 years of experience in the market, BayWa r.e. has already commissioned plants with 2 GW and is responsible for the operational management of more than 5 GW of plant output.
The Conventional Energy business unit provides customers – primarily in southern Germany and Austria – with reliable supplies of fuels. Innovative products and services supplement the classical range of products with heating oil, wood pellets, lubricants and fuels. This includes, for example, premium wood pellets sourced from sustainable forestry operations, a climate-neutral range of heating oil, wood pellets and diesel or the BayWa Oilfox – a digital fill-level indicator that uses an app to provide information about consumption and fill levels, and helps to ensure fast reordering.
The BayWa filling station card enables cashless refuelling around the clock. The card is valid at around 100 company-operated filling stations and more than 2,500 partner filling stations throughout across. This business unit is also keeping up when it comes to electromobility: Thanks to partnerships with renowned providers, customers can use the BayWa filling station card at about 8,000 charging stations throughout Germany to fill up on electricity. Across Europe, drivers can even take advantage of 35,000 charging points. BayWa plans to construct its own quick charging stations at selected locations
The business unit sells lubricants to commercial and industrial customers, and to farmers and operators of combined heat and power plants. In 2018, the new digital platform “Interlubes” was launched. It enables the online distribution of lubricants and operating resources to B2B customers. The platform offers B2B users in the areas of commerce, industry, workshops, municipal services, transportation, agriculture and forestry a wide range of lubricants spanning a wide range of manufacturers and brands. The portfolio includes products and brands from all of the leading manufacturers and dealers.
The business unit offers heat contracting via its subsidiary BayWa Energie Dienstleistungs GmbH. This includes the provision of energy for buildings through the construction, operation and maintenance of heating systems and by supplying fuels.
