A brief profile of the Energy business unit

The Energy business unit pools renewable energies and the trade in conventional energy sources. Under the umbrella of BayWa r.e. AG, the Renewable Energies segment covers the entire project business in the field of wind and solar energy. BayWa r.e. AG also trades in photovoltaic components and storage technology for installers and develops innovative solutions for the provision of energy. Along with Europe and North America, BayWa r.e. is active in the Asia-Pacific region and in Australia. In the segment Energy, BayWa sells heating oil, fuels, lubricants, AdBlue as well as wood pellets and heating solutions, mainly in southern Germany and Austria. BayWa Mobility Solutions GmbH rounds off BayWa’s spectrum with solutions in the field of CO2-optimised mobility: offerings in the areas of electromobility, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and digital mobility.

The segments within the Energy business unit

  • The activities of this segment are pooled within the BayWa r.e. AG subsidiary. In the field of renewable energy, BayWa r.e. is one of the leading developers, service suppliers, PV wholesalers and energy solution providers. Under the motto “r.e.think energy”, the company is active worldwide. As a full-service partner with more than 25 years of experience in the market, BayWa r.e. has globally brought plants with 4 GW online and is currently responsible for the operational management of 9 GW of plant output.

    To the BayWa r.e. website
  • The segment Energy provides customers – primarily in southern Germany and Austria – with reliable supplies of fuels. Innovative products and services supplement the classical range of products with heating oil, wood pellets, lubricants and fuels. This includes, for example, premium wood pellets sourced from sustainable forestry operations, a climate-neutral range of heating oil, wood pellets and diesel or the BayWa Oilfox – a digital fill-level indicator that uses an app to provide information about consumption and fill levels, and helps to ensure fast reordering.

The BayWa filling station card enables cashless refuelling around the clock.  The card is valid at around 100 company-operated filling stations and more than 2,500 partner filling stations throughout Germany. This business unit is also keeping up when it comes to electromobility: Thanks to partnerships with renowned providers, customers can use the BayWa filling station card at about 8,000 charging stations throughout Germany to fill up on electricity. Across Europe, drivers can even take advantage of 35,000 charging points. With the website, BayWa Mobility Solutions has also entered the platform economy for private customers. BayWa is also investing into LNG filling stations: Four BayWa LNG filling stations were connected to the gas grid in 2020, more are under construction. The stations of other enterprises can be accessed through so-called cross-aceptance by using the BayWa fuel card.

The business unit sells lubricants to commercial and industrial customers, and to farmers and operators of combined heat and power plants. In 2018, the new digital platform “Interlubes” has been launched. It enables the online distribution of lubricants and operating resources to B2B customers.

The business unit offers heat contracting via its subsidiary BayWa Energie Dienstleistungs GmbH. This includes the provision of energy for buildings through the construction, operation and maintenance of heating systems and by supplying fuels.

Since 1 January 2021 BayWa Haustechik GmbH, which supplies supra-regional installation services for heating, sanitation and ventilation, is part of the Conventional Energy business. Apart from the installation of oil-, gas-, wood- and pellet-fired heating, its product-range includes heat pumps, solar systems, living space ventilation and sanitary engineering.
