BayWa publishes 5th sustainability report

18/04/2019

On 18th of April, BayWa published its Sustainability Report 2018, which illustrates its commitment to taking on ecological, economic and social responsibility under the motto "Living solidarity". In addition to BayWa's sustainability strategy, the report shows the new climate strategy and its objectives. It shows what measures have already been taken, what progress has been made within the Group and what long-term goals still need to be achieved.

Specific examples in the report illustrate the sustainability commitment of the BayWa Group. Thus, clear targets were set this year with the Group-wide climate strategy. The core objective of the climate strategy is to reduce own greenhouse gas emissions in the areas of energy and mobility by 22 percent by 2025 compared to 2017; four further objectives complete the ambitious strategy. With its climate strategy, BayWa is making a contribution to limiting global warming to far under 2 degrees Celsius and thus supporting the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement. BayWa is also addressing the climatic challenges on a product level: For example the satellite-aided irrigation solution “VariableRain”, for example, helps farmers to irrigate their fields more efficiently and to prevent weather-related loss of yield and save water. With its Beekist tomato line, the New Zealand subsidiary T&G Global is focusing, among other things, on irrigation with rainwater and 95 percent plastic-free packaging. In 2018 alone, the BayWa Foundation supported 25 long-term education projects worldwide. Many of these are related to the sustainability development targets of the United Nations, such as measures on climate protection and Life on land.

The BayWa sustainability report was prepared in compliance with the international reporting standard of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) for sustainability reports and meets the requirements of the CSR guideline implementation Act (CSR-RUG) for the disclosure of non-financial information. Among other things, the law requires the description of management approaches, measures and key figures in the five areas of environment, employees, social affairs, human rights and anti-corruption. The Sustainability Report was inspected by an accountingauditing firm for the second time. The CSR-RUG-relevant contents of the Sustainability Report 2018 relate to the entire BayWa Group including all subsidiaries.
