Sustainable activities in the Building Materials segment
Through the Building Materials segment, the company covers the demand for building materials and solutions for energy-efficient building and renovation.
For the labeling of low-emission building materials, a separate orientation guide was circulated in 2018 to help customers select and combine the appropriate products. Only products that pass the internal control process, receive the BayWa BauGesund seal. As part of this, important independent product certifications and test reports are evaluated, among other things, and the seal is then awarded by a BayWa expert. The long-term goal is to consolidate healthy building as a standard in the construction industry in order to create healthy living space for generations. Especially in times of homeschooling and -office, one's own four walls should be planned and implemented with great care in terms of emissions.
Modern bright living atmosphere combined with energy efficiency and sustainability sets standards for intergenerational living: The foundation stone for the "NOVUM" construction project in Burgkirchen a.d. Alz has been laid. A total of 45 residential units are being built, 13 of which are barrier-free and designed for the elderly, a senior daycare center, a children's playground, landscaped indoor and outdoor areas, and an underground parking garage. The complex thus creates living arrangements for different phases of life and connects generations. Environmental and climate protection have also been taken into account: energy standard KfW Efficiency House 55, self-generated electricity through photovoltaics, green roof, climate-controlled ceiling and pellet heating. As a project partner, BayWa AG contributes the sustainable energy concept and takes over the subsequent energy management for the entire building through a contracting agreement.
The future of construction
Not all construction is the same - proof of this is provided by a construction project in Schrobenhausen. Plapperer Projekt GmbH, a joint venture between the construction company Michael Plapperer and BayWa AG, is building the Multi Park, a residential and commercial park that will serve as a model for the region. On an area of more than 10,000 square meters, the Multi Park will comprise six buildings for residential and commercial units, whose cooling, heating and electricity will come entirely from renewable energies. In addition, the Multi Park is being built according to the criteria of healthy living. This means good, low-pollutant indoor air for residents and users and even more valuable real estate for investors.
Prefabricated bathroom modules in wood construction
Tjiko GmbH, in which BayWa AG holds shares, produces industrially prefabricated bathroom modules in timber construction. The customizable complete bathrooms can be assembled and connected on the construction site within 120 minutes. This shortens construction time and relieves cities of construction noise and dust pollution. In addition, emissions are bound in the wood used, which remain removed from the environment for the entire life of the modules. Industrial production improves the working conditions of the craftsmen and enables precise planning, resulting in less waste than on the construction site.
Efficiency house plus settlement in Hügelshart, Bavaria
13 house units, nine single-family houses and four semi-detached houses each produce more energy than their inhabitants consume on average each year.
The settlement is considered to be Germany's first Efficiency House Plus settlement to be built in accordance with the criteria of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Construction and Nuclear Safety (BMU). Over the year as a whole, this results in an energy self-sufficiency of approx. 70 percent. The construction project of asset Grundbesitz- und Vermögensverwaltung GmbH in cooperation with BayWa AG exemplifies the maturity of energy-efficient, healthy and at the same time economical construction methods.
The brick houses of the Efficiency House Plus settlement already met today's construction standards at the time of their construction. In concrete terms, this means low energy consumption on the one hand and high solar coverage via in-house energy generation coupled with intelligent energy management on the other.
